About this plan
A 22 by 28 foot cabin under a lean-to shed roof, 616 square feet with one bedroom, one bathroom and a ten foot square sleeping loft above. The 22x28 cabin plans arrive as a PDF plan set.
The 10 by 10 loft
A hundred square feet is enough for a double bed with room to stand beside it, which is the practical minimum for a loft you will use regularly rather than occasionally. Undersized lofts are the most common fault in small cabin plans, and this one is drawn past it.
With the bedroom below and the loft above, the cabin sleeps two parties without either walking through the other.
The shed roof
A single slope carries the ceiling from eight feet at the low wall to twelve feet six at the high one. That height goes over the living space and the loft, where it is useful, while the bedroom and bathroom stay at a normal, easily heated height.
It is also the cheapest roof to frame, with no ridge, no valleys and every rafter cut the same.
Practicalities
Washer and dryer space is drawn in. A front deck is available as an option. The roof is rated to 95 pounds per square foot of snow load, and slab, pier and crawl space foundations are all included.

Permit requirements depend on your location, site and proposed construction. Your building department determines which drawings, calculations and professional approvals are required, and local review may identify changes needed to the plans. Some departments ask for an engineer’s stamp or a foundation designed around your own soil report; arrange these with a local engineer.
