Vaulted throughout

Most small cabins vault the living room and leave the bedroom flat at eight feet. Carrying 16 feet across the whole 650 square feet means there is no low room to retreat into, and it is the single reason this plan lives larger than its floor area. On a single-storey building the roof volume is there whether you use it or not.

How it is arranged

Large windows throughout, with a large patio off the living space. There is a rear door beside the kitchen, which sounds minor until you are carrying firewood, groceries or rubbish and would otherwise be walking the length of the cabin to do it.

Foundation and basement

Drawn for pier or slab, with a full basement available as an option. On a 650 square foot footprint a basement doubles your usable area for the cost of excavation and walls, and it is where the mechanical plant, the storage and the workshop can go instead of eating into the living space.

The roof is rated to 95 pounds per square foot of snow load.
