A 12 in 12 pitch is a 45 degree roof, which is the classic barn angle and the steepest pitch that can still be framed and sheathed without special measures. It gives the loft full standing headroom at the centre and carries snow off rather than holding it.

The ridge is 16 feet 8 inches high. Height limits for accessory structures vary, so check with your local planning or zoning office.

Sixteen feet inside a sixteen foot width

The ceiling height matches the building width, which gives the interior a square section and is why 594 square feet does not feel like a shed. The sleeping loft takes part of that height, leaving the rest open.

Practicalities

Washer and dryer space is drawn in, which on a building this size is a real allocation of floor area and the difference between a cabin you visit and one you can live in.
