About this plan
Walden is a 20 by 30 foot cabin, 820 square feet over two levels, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. 600 square feet on the ground floor and 220 in the loft, connected by a spiral staircase. These 20x30 cabin plans are delivered as a PDF plan set.
Why a spiral stair
In a building 20 feet wide, a conventional straight flight would consume a significant share of the ground floor and cut the double-height living space in half. A spiral climbs within its own diameter, so it takes a corner instead of a room.
It is also the reason the living space can stay open through both levels rather than being interrupted by a stairwell.
Decks at both ends
There are decks front and rear. On a narrow cabin that gives you somewhere to sit in the morning and somewhere else in the evening, and a second way out of the building, which is worth having in a remote place.
Proportions
The build height is 22 feet 6 inches over a 20 foot width, so the cabin reads tall and narrow. The double-height living space takes that volume.
A stacked washer and dryer is drawn in rather than left out, which at 820 square feet is a deliberate use of floor area.
