About this plan
A 24 by 36 foot Nordic A-frame, 1,145 square feet over two levels, two bedrooms and one bathroom, with a 280 square foot loft reached by a spiral staircase. Drawn to sleep three or four. The full set of 24x36 a-frame plans downloads straight after payment.
The spiral staircase
A spiral stair occupies roughly a third of the floor area a conventional straight flight needs. In a building 24 feet wide with a double-height living space running through it, that is the difference between a stair that dominates the room and one that sits in a corner of it.
It is also the only stair type that works well under a steeply pitched A-frame roof, because it climbs within its own diameter rather than needing a long run of headroom.
How it is arranged
The living space is double height, open to the 280 square foot loft above. Two bedrooms and a bathroom complete the plan, and a front deck extends the living area outdoors. Washer and dryer space is drawn in.
Structure and foundation
Rated for 115 mile per hour winds, which on a tall, steep A-frame matters more than it does on a low building, because the gable presents a large surface to the weather.
Drawn for a slab or for pier and post, so it suits both level and uneven ground.

Your building department determines which drawings, calculations and professional approvals are required, and local review may identify changes needed to the plans. Some departments ask for an engineer’s stamp or a foundation designed around your own soil report; arrange these with a local engineer.
