Aspen is a 16 by 24 foot cabin, 385 square feet on one level with one bedroom and one bathroom. Living and dining are open to each other, and a large covered porch runs off them. These 16x24 cabin plans come as a complete PDF set.

One level, no ladder

Almost every cabin at this size puts the bed in a loft and hands you a ladder. Aspen keeps everything on the ground floor. That means a real bedroom with a door, no climbing at night, and a cabin that still works when you are seventy. The cost is footprint, which is why it is 24 feet long rather than 18.

The porch

The covered porch is large relative to the cabin. At 385 square feet indoors, the porch is where you sit, eat and keep the firewood dry, and it effectively extends the living space for as long as the weather allows.

Proportions

Ceilings are 8 feet 6 inches, the gable is a 6 in 12 pitch and the ridge sits at 16 feet. Those are modest, conventional numbers, and they are what keep this cabin cheap to frame and simple to sheathe.

Foundation

Drawn for a concrete crawl space, which lifts the floor clear of ground moisture and leaves the plumbing accessible.

Permit requirements depend on your location, site and proposed construction. Your building department determines which drawings, calculations and professional approvals are required, and local review may identify changes needed to the plans. Some departments ask for an engineer’s stamp or a foundation designed around your own soil report; arrange these with a local engineer.
