If a plan is right in spirit but wrong in the detail, ask us about changing it. We will confirm whether the change can be made for that plan and, if it can, send a written quote. Quotes are free.
How modifications work
Custom changes are agreed in writing before any work starts.
Send us the changes
Tell us the plan number and what you want to change. A written list works; marked-up PDFs, sketches or screenshots help. If you have drawings or screenshots, email your request and attachments to support@planbarn.com and include the plan number; there is no need to use the form as well. Without attachments, the contact form is fine.
We check it and quote
We confirm whether the change can be made for that plan. If it can, you receive a written quote setting out the scope, price, what you will receive and an estimated completion time. The quote is free and there is no obligation.
You approve, then work starts
Work begins only after you approve the written quote, we have the information it depends on, and any payment set out in the quote has been received.
Revised drawings
You receive the revised drawings described in the quote. Anything outside the agreed scope is quoted separately and needs your approval before work continues.
What people ask to change
Every modification is quoted individually, because the same change costs differently on a 1,200 square foot cabin and a 4,000 square foot house. Whether a change is possible depends on the plan.

How timing works
- Quote reply: we aim to reply to quote requests within two business days (Monday to Friday, excluding US public holidays).
- Completion: each written quote gives an estimated completion time for that job. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed date.
- When the clock starts: once you have approved the quote, we have the information the work depends on, and any payment set out in the quote has been received.
- What extends it: changes to the agreed scope, and time spent waiting for your answers or your review. We confirm any revised estimate before continuing.
Drawing changes you can ask us to quote
- Mirroring and reversing layouts
- Room sizes, wall positions and door or window placement
- Exterior finishes, rooflines and elevation styling
- Foundation type, such as slab, crawl space or basement
- Adding, removing or repurposing rooms
- Garage size, orientation and bay count
- Ceiling heights, vaults and roof pitch
We confirm in the quote whether a change can be made for your plan.

- Structural engineering, and any professional stamp or seal your jurisdiction requires
- Site, grading and survey plans
- Soil reports and foundation design for your soil conditions
- Septic system design
- Energy compliance calculations
- Mechanical and plumbing design where your jurisdiction requires it
These depend on your site and your local authority. They are not part of a plan set or a drawing modification, so arrange them with appropriately qualified professionals. Your builder can often recommend them.
Modifications and your licence
Modifying a plan does not grant permission to resell, redistribute or republish the drawings. Your existing licence restrictions continue to apply, including the single-build limit. Read the plan licence.

If you already know a plan needs changing, send the request before you purchase. We will tell you whether the change can be made and quote it, so you know where you stand before you pay for the plan.
